We absolutely love celebrating St. Patrick’s Day here at the studio, but this year, it feels a bit more sentimental than most. It’s been well over a year since my family and I last visited Ireland, a place that holds such a special spot in our hearts. We typically go twice a year to visit my husband’s side of the family, and I often find myself daydreaming about walking through the Currabinny Woods or exploring the English Market in downtown Cork.

Ireland is one of those rare places that’s beautiful in every season and every shade of sky, even the rain has a soft, moody magic to it. But for me, it’s the flowers that truly steal the show. Every visit, I find myself inspired all over again. In fact, many of my sugar flowers begin with a real bloom picked from an Irish garden, carefully studied and pulled apart so I can capture its movement, structure, and soul in sugar.

This St. Patrick’s Day, we created a cake that celebrates Ireland’s natural beauty through some of our signature sugar flowers: Sugar Roses, Sugar Dahlias, Sugar Bells of Ireland, Sugar Freesia, & Sugar Hydrangeas.

Each petal was lovingly handmade with the spirit of the Emerald Isle in mind, lush, wild, and utterly enchanting.

A big thank you to @dariakeenanphotography for capturing this cake so beautifully, and to @versonaevents for the stunning floral wreath that wrapped the display in even more green goodness. Special thanks to @p.willis.jr for the dreamy makeup and @ensaisonstudios via @shopbop for the gorgeous dress that tied it all together.

Until we can visit Ireland again, we’ll keep honoring it the sweetest way we know how, through cake.
